Prayer for Aceh

Meditate on Psalm 19:7-13

7The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. 8The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. 9The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous. 10They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb. 11By them your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward. 12But who can discern their own errors? Forgive my hidden faults. 13Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then I will be blameless, innocent of great transgression.

Prayer Prompt

As we are trusting God to raise up groups to come together and read the word of God, you may be asking yourself, “What does that look like?” Discovery Bible Study (DBS), the three thirds method and other tools are a simple, reproducible way to interact with the bible that ordinary people can do. These ways of interacting with scripture can be done with people who have their PhD in theology alongside illiterate farmers and fishermen. The word of God is set up to be the authority, and groups very quickly learn how to ask 7-9 questions (depending on context) that serve as guardrails to keep the word central and keep out false teaching. These questions and ways of interacting with scripture also plant the seeds for the group studying to one day become a healthy church. Families and friends go on a journey of discovering who God is, who they are, and what it means for their life and community. Obedience is more important than knowledge in these groups. As they obey the scriptures, they see the power and truth of God’s word. They are on the journey together and many times after walking through stories from Creation to Christ, or stories that speak to felt needs in their lives, groups will decide to be baptized all together.

Prayer Points: 

• May the Word of God run swiftly throughout the families of Aceh (Psalm 147:15)
• As the families of Aceh come together under the word of God may they taste and see that the Lord is good (Psalm 34:8) and that his Word is truth (John 17:17)
• Pray that groups would not just start, but that groups would continue to meet, discover, and multiply.
• We praise God for the rumors of this happening in different regions in the province. Pray for these groups to be strengthened and grow in love for God and each other!
