Meditate on 2 Timothy 2:1-7
1You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others. 3Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer. 5Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor’s crown except by competing according to the rules. 6The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops. 7Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this.
Prayer Prompt
There are more Christians today in the world than at any other time in human history. Although the number of Christians is increasing, the percentage of Christians in the world has largely stayed the same for the last 100 years. A lot of the numerical growth of Christianity has come by addition rather than multiplication. In movements the goal is not just to add people to groups but for these groups to actually multiply, meaning that eventually we have churches that are multiplying! An example, let’s pretend that we’ve found a person of peace named Ahmed. Ahmed invites his parents, siblings, and two cousins to discover God together in a group bible study. One of Ahmed’s cousins, named Mohammad, is really excited and is sharing with his parents and siblings. Instead of asking Mohammad to bring his parents and siblings to Ahmed’s group Study, Mohammad is encouraged and discipled to start a new separate group study with his family. This process continues so that there is not growth through adding individuals, but exponential growth by multiplying groups! In fact, to be labeled as a movement, groups need to consistently reproduce at least 4 times. That means that Ahmed’s discovery bible study would help start Mohammad’s discovery bible study, that would help start another new study, that would start another new study, to the fourth generation and beyond!
